The Renaissance
The Renaissance (French for "rebirth") was a period of renewed interest in literature, science, art, and learning in general. This era, now referred to as "the Renaissance" occurred in Italy. The Renaissance was caused by an increase of trade after the crusades, growing wealth in Italian city-states, interest in ancient Greeks and Romans, rich merchants who became patrons of the arts, and the people's desire to live in a beautiful environment.
